I would like to give a special congratulation's to Kalai for qualifying for the GB Ladies' DB Team for 2008.
In Nov 07, ex-TT Capt Ping, sent a mail to all the ladies in Typhoon's asking them if they were interested in training with the GB Premier Women's Dragon Boat Racing Team for 2008.
Kalai took the challenge.
Since then, she has been training hard on and off the Typhoon boat, working on her tech, strength and fitness. Often braving the harsh winter conditions and training daily on the 01's on her own.
On Sat 21st June, at the GB Time trial team selection, she had to do two timed O1 runs over a distance of 500m on the day. With a time of 3:08 and 3:12, she smashed 35secs of her previous time she set in March. She placed top 9th place in the country from UK's best righthand female paddlers in attendance.
Kalai is a shining example of what you can achieve if you train hard and if you put your mind to it. I hope this will inspire others to follow in her footsteps. May she be the first of many Tigers that will be representing Great Britain in the near future.
Kalai will be competing with the likes of Sharon Wilkins and Julie Doyle of Batchworth at the Europeans Championships in Italy, Rome in Sept 5th-7th Sept. And flying the flag for Great Britain and the Tiger family.
